The All-Star break is behind us, and in Tuesday night's 83rd MLB All-Star Game at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri;  Washington Nationals “w " Rookie Bryce Harper got to put on a colourful show……….. who would be game enough to wear cleats that colour ? Harper would !!!  More important , National League All-Star Stephen Strasburg #37 of the Washington Nationals “w " pitched a fourth inning scoreless frame. The second half of the 2012 MLB season will soon begin. That, of course, means playoff races will become the singular focus. With the expanded wild-card format, we have a healthy number of teams that have realistic designs on the postseason. Bartlett Blast delivers walk off glory

Westgarth 3rds Stage Remarkable Baseball Win Westgarth Baseball Club has had many wins in its proud 67 year history but few could have been more remarkable than the victory achieved by the 3rds team against Monash University on Saturday. On a bitterly cold afternoon at Merri Park in Northcote the Wesgarth team took to the plate for one last time trying to come back from a 14-9 deficit.  The young Monash southpaw pitcher who had started the game and deserved the victory quickly retired the lead-off batter.  Clean-up hitter Gary McKeown then briefly delayed the inevitable with a double to right field.  Marcus Garafillis capped a 3-hit game by singling to centre field and scoring McKeown.  That cut the deficit to 4 but the game looked all but over when the next hitter popped out to 2nd base in the fading light.  Westgarth were down to their last out and Monash were only one out away from securing the win. Passing of Club Patron Don Gough

  Don Gough Current & former players, members and supporters of the Westgarth Baseball Club mourn the passing of Don Gough; their esteemed, Former President, Life Member & Inaugural Club Patron. Don steered the development of Westgarth Baseball across 6 decades and in doing so had a profound and positive impact on the lives of many young men who wore the Westgarth  Royal or Navy Blue on Winter Saturday afternoons at Merri Park. He will always remain our admired and respected friend and Club Legend. To Joyce, Meree, Leanne & Rodney go the thoughts and best wishes from all in the Westgarth family.     More
