WBC win the 2014 Gough / Brentnall Trophy

Ronnie Bunker’s WBC Cricketers returned the Gough / Brentnall Trophy to Westgarth yesterday afternoon (Sun march 2, 2014)

In a 36 Over “one dayer” with a noisy Preston Cricket Club providing entertainment in the stands WBC defended 174 to win by a narrow 9 runs at the “BULLANTS oval.

Westgarth’s player of the match Bernard Kelly made 39 retired and took 1/14 from 6 overs when not keeping. The Centurions  player of the match was former WBC baseballer Shaun Brentnall who took 2/ 25 off 5 overs and made 22. As part of the post match presentations and formalities Ron Brentnall revived a number of fond memories of Don Gough’s role in establishing this annual game which is now in it’s 21^st year .

 

Your WBC cricketers were ably represented by a blend of current & former players and ably lead by WBC Life Member Ron Bunker. Notable inclusions in the WBC 12 were WBC’s auditor Phil MacIsaac who made a return to the playing ranks, swing man Luke Brownley who whilst only available for part of the afternoon arrived in time to take the new rock and bowl his “quicks” with a stiff breeze at his back and WBC junior Gideon van Tryst who made his WBC cricket debut and “smacked” a non-challant 18 in the final overs before falling to Brentnall (jnr) with only a few overs left in the innings.
